HA NOI (VNS) — The cast of Hollywood blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VIII has just been announced, before shooting begins in London.

Besides familiar names from the previous episodes such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Adam Driver, Star Wars VIII will have three new faces, including Vietnamese-American actress Kelly Marie Tran.

Born and raised in San Diego in the United States, Tran graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. She started becoming known among comedy fans via a series of comedy videos released on the internet, such as Periods aren't that Gross and Ladies like Us.

Some of the renowned American television series that Tran has acted in are Fall into Me (on Lifetime channel), About a Boy (on NBC channel) and Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street (on Amazon channel).

The comedian has just finished shooting for XoXo, a romantic film that will be broadcast on Netflix channel.

Star Wars VIII is expected to be a great opportunity for the Vietnamese-American actress, following the success of Daisy Ridley and John Boyega after they were cast in the seventh edition of the blockbuster series.

Though details about Tran's role are yet to be revealed, she is expected to add a comic element to the film.

The other two new faces of Star Wars VIII are Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro, both famous Hollywood actors. While Dern has received two Oscar nominations for her roles in Rambling Rose (1991) and Wild (2014), in addition to playing the lead role in Jurassic Park (1993), Del Toro won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Traffic (2000) and received an Oscar nomination for his role in 21 Grams (2003).

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars VIII will hit the theatres on December 15, 2017. — VNS
