HA NOI (VNS) — Established painter Doan Hoang Lam is going to display his new and never-before-seen works at a solo exhibition in Ha Noi.
Three 80cm by 110cm lacquer paintings and six oil paintings of different sizes, inspired by the female form, have been drawn by Lam.
"I want to create a new language of art that will enable me to be more proactive in painting the female body," said artist Lam. "In about ten years of painting female models, I almost depend on models of natural beauty."
The largest work is a 150cm by 250cm oil painting, painted at the end of 2014.
The painting of a body having the features of a worm shows the equality between mankind and nature.
The exhibition includes never-before-seen paintings made in 2008 and 2013.
The artist got the idea to paint this series of female form in 2008, but completed the paintings only last year.
Born in 1970 to a well-known artist family in Ha Noi, Lam graduated from the fine art faculty of Cinema and Theatre College. He then studied at the Viet Nam Academy of Fine Arts.
His early works won highly appreciation, winning prizes from the culture, sports and tourism ministry's Department of Photography, Exhibition and Fine Arts since 1996, and Juror Choir Vietnam Asia Fine Art 1999 award, marking another milestone of his creative work.
All of Lam's recent works are full of human character and his optimistic outlook in life.
"Manzi is pleased to present works by Lam," an organiser from Manzi Art Space said. "He approaches each painting medium with sensitivity and clarity, utilising its intrinsic vocabulary and qualities as the foundation for the formation of his ideas and experiments, and an instrument to communicate his thoughts and mental state."
The exhibition will open at 6pm on Friday and run till September 20 at Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich Street, Ha Noi. — VNS
