HA NOI (VNS) — The first Vietnamese Film Festival in South Korea begins today in Seoul.
The four-day festival entitled Asian Film's Rising Star is being promoted by Vietnamese artress Van Trang and South Korean actor Yeo Jin-goo.
Five movies will be screened at the festival, Ao Lua Ha Dong (White Silk); Thien Menh Anh Hung (Blood Letter); Choi Voi (Adrift); Am Muu Giay Got Nhon (How to Fight in Six-Inch Heels) and the blockbuster, Scandal.
The opening ceremony will feature Blood Letter. Actor Yeo is known in Viet Nam from the television drama Moon Embracing the Sun. Last year, he played his first leading role in action thriller Hwa-yi. This earned him Best New Actor at the Blue Dragon Film Awards in South Korea.
The Vietnamese Film Festival is being organised by the Vietnamese embassy in South Korean; the Vietnamese culture ministry's Department of Cinematography, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, and the Korean Film Council.
"The five movies portray modern daily life in Viet Nam. I hope they make Korean audiences change their minds about Vietnamese cinema," said Ngo Phuong Lan, head of the Department of Cinematography. — VNS
