The Perfect Spy
author to meet with readers
HA NOI — The author of the book The Perfect Spy, the
true story of Vietnamese spy Pham Xuan An, will meet with fans today in Ha Noi.
The book, written by Larry Berman, has been highly-acclaimed
both in the US and in Viet Nam. First published in April 2007 in English, the
story follows the double life of Pham Xuan An, a reporter for Time Magazine
and a Vietnamese secret agent. During the American War in Viet Nam, he worked as
a well-respected Vietnamese journalist and a communist intelligence agent.
Berman studied An’s life as a professor of political science
at the University of California-Davis, and has devoted his career to
understanding the American War and sharing his knowledge with others.
After its initial English release, Vietnam News Agency’s
Publishing House acquired the copyright permission to publish the book in
Vietnamese. Since its domestic release, the book has become a phenomenon in Viet
The meeting is taking place today at 8.45am, at Vietnam News
Agency, at 11 Tran Hung Dao Street, Ha Noi. Berman will be signing copies of the
