Leather firm to pay record-breaking fine

HCM CITY (VNS) — The HCM City People's Committee issued a record-breaking fine of US$300,000 on Tuesday to the Hao Duong Leather Tanning Co. for polluting and for misconduct in submitting environmental reports.

The company was found violating waste water treatment regulations at its factory in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Complex in HCM City.

The local authority ordered the firm to collect and process its waste water before allowing it to run through water treatment units. — VNS
