LANG SON (VNS)– Construction on the first solid waste processing plant in the northern province of Lang Son started on Sunday. The plant is expected to treat 300 tonnes of waste a day when completed by late 2014.

Located on an area of 25ha in Lang Son City's Quang Lac Commune, the plant will process solid waste for the Dong Dang Border Gate Economic Zone and neighbouring areas. It is funded by a private enterprise and will use technology from Germany and Norway.

An estimated 100,000 tonnes of solid waste – at least – are produced in the province each year, of which 80 per cent come from daily life and are normally discarded by local people. Only 70 per cent of solid waste is collected and buried by 10 enterprises in the province. -- VNS
