Price of shrimp rises in southern Ca Mau

HA NOI — The price of shrimp has increased sharply in southernmost Ca Mau Province since the beginning of the month. The jump was due to frozen shrimp exporters expanding their export market and the rising demand for Vietnamese shrimp at key export markets, including the US and Europe.

The price rose from VND95,000 to VND110,000 (or even VND125,000) per kilo with 30 units and from VND80,000 to VND100,000 per kilo with 40 units.

Viet Nam has two more foreign banks

HA NOI — The State Bank of Viet Nam granted operation licences to First Commercial Bank Ltd's branch in Ha Noi and the Shanghai Commercial and Savings Ltd's branch in southern Dong Nai Province on Wednesday.

The two branches each have US$15 million of charter capital and will perform capital mobilization, credit activities, payment services and other banking services.

VALC receives fourth ATR72-500 aircraft

HA NOI — Viet Nam Aircraft Leasing Company (VALC) received its fourth ATR72-500 plane yesterday from the manufacturer Avion de Transport Regional (ATR), which is based out of Toulouse, France.

VALC said this was the fourth of five ATR72-500 airplanes ordered with a total investment of US$100 million. The company expects to receive the last one in December.

VALC General Director Tran Long said his company would receive 10 Airbus A321-200 planes in the future and will lease Viet Nam Airlines in 2012-13.

Foreign firms drive demand for retail space

HA NOI — Demand for retail space will boom in the next two years as foreign retailers continue to expand their businesses in Viet Nam, says Pham Hong Long from Hapulico Real Estate Investment Company.

Hapulico, a trade centre and office and apartment complex, slated to open its doors late next year on Nguyen Huy Tuong Street, is expected to meet the increasing demand for office space in Ha Noi in the coming years, Long said.

The complex will provide 36,000sq.m of retail space and over 30,000sq.m of office space for lease. Project construction began in May 2009. — VNS

APEC Securities posts profit

HA NOI — APEC Securities Co posted a profit of VND61 billion (US$3.12 million) in the first nine months of the year, representing 83 per cent the firm's target for 2010.

The company has decided to offer additional shares to existing holders at a 1:1 ratio in the fourth quarter.

Funds raised will be applied to property projects as well as to a planned increase in charter capital to VND780 billion ($40 million).

PSG sells shares to PV Gas Corp

HCM CITY — PetroVietnam Southern Gas Co (PGS) has sold 5.6 million shares of PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution Co (PGD) to PV Gas Corp, the HCM City Stock Exchange announced.

By selling its stake in PGD, PGS is able to increase its own charter capital from VND330 billion ($16.92 million) to VND429 billion (US$22 million), as well as realise additional funds for construction and business promotion projects during 2010-11.

Telcos to list on Ha Noi bourse

HA NOI — Post & Telecommunications Insurance Co, Telecom-Informatics-Electronics Co, and Click&Phone Securities Co will list shares on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange in the fourth quarter, with Click&Phone shares to begin trading on October 11.

The Post & Telecommunications Insurance Co has charter capital of VND450 billion (US$23.1 million), with a core business in health, accident and non-life insurance.

Telecom-Informatics-Electronics Co, which has charter capital of VND30 billion ($1.5 million), has targeted earnings of VND115 billion ($5.9 million) and a profit of VND10.3 billion ($0.53 million) this year.

Saigon Securities opens new branch

HA NOI — Saigon Securities Inc opened its My Dinh branch in Ha Noi on Monday, making it the company's third branch in the capital and eighth nationwide. The My Dinh branch will provide investment consultancy, brokerage services, shares depository and online trading. — VNS
