(05-06-2009)

HCM CITY — More than 120 foreign and domestic architecture and construction companies are participating in the four-day International Architecture Exhibition that opened yesterday in HCM City.

Coming from over 20 countries, the participants include big names like Aedas from the UK, ONG and Ong from Singapore, Korn from Germany, Nikkei Sekkei from Japan and Nha Vui and Nam Long from Viet Nam.

They are displaying their designs, models and building blueprints as well as construction materials and real estate projects at around 500 booths in the Sai Gon International Exhibition and Convention Center.

This first annual VIETARC, as the exhibition is called, seeks to promote the development of the architecture, construction and real estate markets, according to Nguyen Thu Phong, vice chairman of the HCM City Architects Association. It also aims to boost technology transfer from the world’s leading firms to Vietnamese companies.

The event would help identify Viet Nam’s potential, opportunities and challenges in the field, Phong said.

VIETARC’09 will host an international architecture forum with 17 lecturers, top domestic and international architects sharing their expertise on several issues including Sustainability and Urban Planning Policy, Sustainability and Architecture, Global Architecture vs. Local Vernacular, and Living Space.

A particular focus of the forum will be Architecture in Viet Nam – Meeting the Challenges of Tomorrow.

The VIETARC’09 is being organised by Viet Nam and HCM City associations of architects, in co-operation with the Gia Phuc Communication Company.

The exhibition centre is located at 799 Nguyen Van Linh, Phu My Hung Urban Area. — VNS
