congress encourages nation’s young entrepreneurs
HCM CITY — HCM City’s
Young Businesspeople Association organised its 6th congress yesterday to review
its activities during the last three years and planning for the next three.
The association (YBA)
groups 470 young entrepreneurs, including 260 who became members in the last
three years, who have invested VND11 trillion (US$700 million) and created
50,000 jobs in and around the city.

Thanks to all this, 12
member-enterprises had received the Red Star award, 59 the Vietnamese Golden
Star prize, and 39 the best young businesspeople in HCM City award.
YBA had given away over
VND1.8 billion ($113,000) to charity.
"[It] will become a
member of the International Young Businesspersons Association next year,"
Nguyen Thanh Tai, vice
chairman of HCM City’s People Committee, told the congress: "The city
warmly appreciates the YBA’s achievements and promises to provide a healthy
business environment for young businesspersons to develop."
Vo Quoc Thang, general
director of Dong Tam Enamelled tile company, was re-elected chairman of the
association for 2006-2009. He vowed to work towards strengthening the
professionalism and competitiveness of businesses.
"We plan to set up a
joint-stock company under our association to do business in real estate and
promote international trade. By 2009, [YBA’s] membership will be doubled, to
around 1,000," he said.
At the congress, nine
members were given the best young businesspersons in HCM City 2006 awards by HCM
City’s Youth Union. — VNS
