HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam was the second largest mobile phone exporter to Peru in 2014, according to the Centre for Foreign Commerce (CCEX) under the Lima Chamber of Commerce.
Last year Peru spent US$55 million to import mobile phones from Viet Nam, an increase of $50 million against 2013. Vietnamese-made products now account for 5 per cent of Peru's mobile phone market, ahead of those from the Republic of Korea (3 per cent) and Taiwan (1 per cent).
Last year, Peru spent over $1.1 billion to import 12.7 million mobile phones, up 31 per cent in terms of value and 23 per cent in terms of quantity.
Vietnamese telecom group Viettel officially began its operation in Peru in October 2014 with the launch of its Bitel-branded mobile service. At that time, Bitel was the only mobile service provider offering 3G services, with a network that reached 80 per cent of Peru's population. — VNS
