TOKYO (VNS) — Japanese retail giant Aeon said it planned to team up with leading Vietnamese retailers Fivimart and Citimart late this year.

Fivimart has 15 supermarkets and Citimart has 26 across Viet Nam.

The cooperation is expected to help Aeon expand its activities to urban areas in the country's two most highly developed economic regions.

In the initial phase, Aeon will sell its food and consumer goods under the ‘Top Value' brand through the two Vietnamese chains, and then co-operate with businesses in Viet Nam to develop new products.

The link will also help Aeon set up a distribution network of goods and reduce the amount of initial capital outlay while laying the groundwork for its plan to construct a series of shopping malls in Viet Nam in the future. Aeon opened a shopping mall in HCM City in January. — VNS
