HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam now exports rice to more than half of the 55 African countries, and its major importers are the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, and Angola, as well as Cameroon.
The Viet Nam Food Association (VFA) reported that Viet Nam exported some 6.6 million tonnes of rice in 2013. Africa is its second-largest rice importer after China, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of the total export value.
Vietnamese rice is favoured in Africa due to its competitive price and good quality. Exports of fragrant rice to the continent currently have the highest growth rate. Last year, Viet Nam signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guinea to supply 300,000 tonnes per year to the latter from April 1, 2013, to December 31, 2015. — VNS
