HA NOI (VNS)— Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces have exported 141,000 tonnes of rice in the first seven days of this month, increasing the amount of rice exported from the beginning of the year to 6.5 million tones, the largest amount ever.
It contributed to the value of rice exports of the whole area at $3.5 billion.
The region is expected to export 300,000 tonnes more till the end of the year, bringing the total rice output in 2012 to around 6.8 billion tonnes, up 6.2 per cent over last year.
Kien Giang province has exceeded this year's target, leading the whole country in both volume and value of rice exported.
To overcome the difficulties, Delta provinces have stepped up exports to Indonesia, China, Philippines and Africa markets, as well as increasing high-grade rice exports to the EU, North America and Middle East markets.-VNS
