Ha Noi-- Vietnam ranks second in footwear exports to Colombia with revenue exceding US$28 million, accounting for 16 per cent of the country's total footwear import value in the first five months of this year, a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent reported.
However, Viet Nam ranks fourth in terms of export volume with more than 1.16 million pairs of shoes. Last year, the country exported almost 2.87 million pairs of shoes worth $66 million, ranking fourth in export volume and second in value.
Footwear was also Viet Nam's third leading export earner in the first half of this year, recording $3.4 billion, up 25 per cent over the same period last year, with EU markets accounting for $1.55 billion.
Latin American countries have emerged as potentially lucrative markets for Viet Nam to tap into and possibly help meet the sector's export target of $7.3 billion for 2012.
Vietnam exported over $121 million worth of footwear products to Brazil in the first six months of this year, up 55 per cent against the first half of last year. This is an impressive increase for the sector despite the negative impact of the global financial crisis.--VNS
