Siemens, ministry sign
power-supply contract
Ha Noi — Siemens will supply medium voltage gas-insulated switch
gear technology (GIS) to the Ministry of Public Security, following the signing
of a supply contract between Siemens and Techcom Life Technologies on Saturday.
The new technology is promoted as maintenance free and offers
reliability and efficiency as well as cost effectiveness.
The President and CEO of Siemens Viet Nam, Erdal Elver said
Siemens aims to offer answers to upcoming challenges in electrical distribution
in a country with a growing population and scarce resources.
Innovation expert to speak in
HCM City
HCM CITY — American innovation guru Robert B Tucker will visit
HCM City for a seminar titled Innovation for Breakthrough Results & Sustainable
Growth to be held at Equatorial Hotel on November 18.
He will talk about the latest strategies and research by the
world’s most innovative companies to benchmark and analyse their best practices
and how these firms are upgrading their practices in light of the global

Leading internet provider
receives State award
HCM City — The country’s largest internet provider, the Viet Nam
Datacommunications Company (VDC), will receive the Labour Order, first class,
for its contribution to the development of the country from 2004 to 2008.
Established in 1989, the VDC has brought the internet to all 63
provinces in the country, along with multiple services that serve different
demands of organisations and individuals.
Broadband broadcaster cuts
monthly fee in half
HCM City — FPT Telecom plans to half its monthly fee for its iTV
customers from October to December, as the company has finished upgrading its
services.
iTV is the only serve-for-demand TV in Viet Nam. The signal is
transmitted through the broadband internet and displayed on a TV screen.
IT competition to hand out
$139,000 in prize money
HCM City — The city Information and Communications Department’s
second ICT competition this year will award total prize money of VND250 million
(US$139,000) in addition to financial support for product promotions.
Eligible candidates are organisations and individuals working in
information technology and using IT applications. Competition will be held in
five groups: best software solutions and products; best hardware product; best
value-added service provider; best IT applied enterprises; and organisations,
individuals who have made excellent contributions to the city’s ICT development.
The winners will be announced in March. Information is available
at www.ict-hcm.gov.vn. Last year, 43 applications from 35 companies took
part in four groups with 13 awards given.
VIPCO, Savimex to sell
treasury stock
HCM CITY — Petroleum transport company VIPCO (VIP) will sell
1.14 million shares of treasury stock over the next three months to raise
capital for ongoing business projects, with sales to begin on Monday.
Import-export company Savimex (SAV) previously announced a
similar intent to sell approximately 450,000 shares of treasury stock, beginning
from November 2, for purposes of supplementing the company’s capital reserves.
NTACO to pay 16% cash dividend
HCM CITY — Shareholders of NTACO (ATA) must register by November
4 for the first phase of dividend payments for this year, the company announced.
A cash dividend of 16 per cent would then be paid out on November 19.

HA NOI — APEC Securities Co will collaborate with PetroVietnam
Finance Corp (PVFC) and PetroVietnam Securities Co (PSI) to provide financing
for stock investments. APEC clients will be able to borrow up to VND20 billion
(US$1.12 million) for a three-month term, with loans disbursed within 36 hours
