Australia helps Viet Nam with small projects

HA NOI — The Australian Embassy in Ha Noi has announced AUD97,000 (US$92,000) for small-scale development projects to help disadvantaged communities from Thua Thien-Hue to northward provinces.

The sum is channeled from now to this time next year through the Direct Aid Programme (DAP), whose priority areas include health, education and environment.

According to the Embassy, DAP funding is available to individuals, community groups and NGOs engaged in development activities, in Viet Nam, on a not-for profit basis.

In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, DAP funded small-scale development projects in Ha Noi and the provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Ha Tay, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.

In addition to DAP funding, Australia will provide an estimated AUD104 million in official development assistance (ODA) to Viet Nam in the 2008-2009 fiscal year. — VNS
