HA NOI — The Australian
Embassy in Ha Noi has announced AUD97,000 (US$92,000) for small-scale
development projects to help disadvantaged communities from Thua Thien-Hue to
The sum is channeled from
now to this time next year through the Direct Aid Programme (DAP), whose
priority areas include health, education and environment.
According to the Embassy,
DAP funding is available to individuals, community groups and NGOs engaged in
development activities, in Viet Nam, on a not-for profit basis.
In the 2007-2008 fiscal
year, DAP funded small-scale development projects in Ha Noi and the provinces of
Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Ha Tay, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh,
Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.
In addition to DAP
funding, Australia will provide an estimated AUD104 million in official
development assistance (ODA) to Viet Nam in the 2008-2009 fiscal year. — VNS
