VNAT to take part in Mekong Tourism Fair

HA NOI — The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) will participate in the Mekong Tourism Fair 2007 in Laos from July 26-29, an annual tourism promotion event for regional nations.

In addition to pavilions introducing Viet Nam tourist destinations, tourism companies will present special programmes including sport tourism, eco-tourism, and overland travel.

Laos is considered a potential market for the Viet Nam tourism sector, especially for overland travel, according to VNAT. The fair is a chance for tourism companies to promote tours in Laos.

Business seminar for import-export firms

HA NOI — A seminar for small and medium-sized import-export firms took place in Ha Noi on Wednesday.

During the seminar, organised by the Ha Noi Trade Promotion Centre and the Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank enterprises discussed the difficulties they had encountered while conducting business abroad.

Sacombank, Sacomreal ink deal

HCM CITY — Sacombank and Sacomreal have signed an investment co-operation contract with Huu Lien A Chau, a leading steel manufacturer specialising in high quality steel products, on July 20.

Sacombank, one of the country’s leading banks, will invest 7 per cent in the steel company, while real estate developer Sacomreal will take a 3 per cent stake. Sai Gon Securities Inc advised on the deal.

Phan Thiet Fish Sauce to be protected

BINH THUAN — The National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam has issued Phan Thiet Fish Sauce with a certificate of origin.

According to decision No 364/QD-SHTT, Phan Thiet Fish Sauce, which is produced in the city of Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan Province, will become the property of the State.

The province is also well-known for the Binh Thuan Blue Dragon brand.

Military Bank profit at VND318 billion

HA NOI — The Military Bank (MB) has reported a mid-year profit of VND318 billion (US$19.9 million), while total assets grew 61 per cent to VND19 trillion (US$1.2 billion).

Earnings were helped along by a number of co-operation agreements with large corporations including Lilama, Ha Noi Housing Investment and Development, and Royal Securities.

The State bank hopes to operate 65 branches by the end of the year, up from the current 48 transaction points.

Japan’s Daiwa talks over deal with SSI

HA NOI — Daiwa Securities has entered into talks with Sai Gon Securites Inc (SSI) on a co-operation agreement after the Japanese firm acquired a 1.25 per cent stake in SSI for US$10.8 million.

Under discussion, the two companies will carry out research on joint investment products, offer training courses and organise roadtrips to Japan aimed at introducing the Vietnamese market to investors. Daiwa Securities has also decided to open a Ha Noi representative office.

SSI is in the process of submitting documents to market regulators to issue an additional 30 million shares on August 5 as part of a dividend payment.

Nine companies to list on Ha Noi bourse

HA NOI — Nine companies have sent financial documents and applications to the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre to list on the bourse.

PV Gas North was among three companies yesterday that submitted documents to authorities, and is the biggest with VND135 billion in charter capital. The other two are Lam Dong Food Company worth VND12 billion and Ngo Quyen Seafood Export Company worth VND10 billion. Cho Lon Real Estate Co was the first company to list on the bourse this year, increasing the number of stocks on the exchange to 87.

An Giang Fishery to list additional shares

HCM CITY — An Giang Fishery (AGF) will list an additional 4.9 million shares today at a face value of VND10,000.

AGF yesterday closed at VND100,000 a share. — VNS
