zones to employ 300,000
HCM CITY — Industrial
parks and export processing zones in HCM City are expected to employ an
additional 300,000 from now to 2010, the city’s Industrial and Export
Processing Zones Authority (HEPZA) said.
Of the estimated number,
industrial parks will need to employ some 119,190 labourers while the Linh Trung
1 and 2 export processing zones will require a further 98,810 labourers, and Tan
Thuan Export Processing Zone, 82,000.
Jobs in high demand
include those in electricity and electronics, engineering, garments and
textiles, plastics and rubber. Additional workers are also needed in foodstuffs,
seafood processing, carpentry and packaging.
By 2010 five per cent of
the labourers will be expected to have tertiary education, 17 per cent,
vocational school training, 35 per cent, high school education and 43 per cent
will be manual labourers.
Nguyen Thanh Tung,
director of HEPZA’ s job service centre, said that in the future more
investment would go toward high-tech industries and fewer jobs would be made
available for poorly skilled labourers like garment and footwear workers.
Highly qualified labourers
would be recruited for electronics, informatics, telecommunications, and the
chemical and manufacturing industries, he added. — VNS
