An Giang’s ten-month exports soar 35.7 per cent

AN GIANG — The southern province of An Giang reaped US$295 million in export earnings in the first ten months of the year, up 35.7 per cent from the same period last year.

The province’s leading export products were rice, frozen fruits and vegetables, and seafood products

Since the beginning of this year, An Giang has shipped 4,480 tonnes of frozen fruits and vegetables, worth $3.5 million, already reaching 90 per cent of its annual target.

Binh Duong sells $500 million in wood products

BINH DUONG — The southern province of Binh Duong has exported US$500 million worth of wood products so far this year, representing 21 per cent of its total export value.

Binh Duong’s key export markets are the US, EU, Japan and South Korea.

Binh Duong province is home to 205 enterprises turning out wood products, 113 of which are foreign-invested. Provincial enterprises posting high turnovers include Chan Kiet Ltd Co, Green River Wood and Lumber Ltd Co and Doanh Duc Ltd Co.

Quang Ngai EZ to build shipping depot, warehouse

QUANG NGAI — The Dung Quat Economic Zone’s management board has licensed Da Nang Multi-Transportation Corporation to build a 6ha depot and warehouse to support logistics operations.

With a total capital of VND90 billion (US$5.6 million), the new warehouse is expected to be put into use by next August.

The zone’s authority has so far granted licences to 94 projects, with combined registered capital of $4.5 billion.

Phu Bai Airport receives first international flight

HUE— Phu Bai Airport in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue officially welcomed on Sunday its first international arrival since it was granted the status of international airport by the Government in 2002.

The flight, carrying Austrian tourists, was flown by Austrian Airlines from the city of Luang Prabang in Laos.

Kien Giang airport to get new terminal

KIEN GIANG — The Southern Airport Authority will invest around VND20 billion (US$1.2 million) in a new, modern terminal at Rach Gia Airport in the southern province of Kien Giang, with construction begin this month.

The airport authority will also pour an additional VND40 billion ($2.5 million) next year into building a hangar and car park at the airport.

VIB Bank raises dong, dollar deposit rates

Ha Noi — Viet Nam International Bank (VIB Bank) has increased deposit interest rates by 0.01-0.07 per cent per month on Viet Nam dong deposits and 0.2-0.3 per cent per year on dollar deposits.

The new rates for deposits in Viet Nam dong are 0.69 per cent per month for three-month deposits, 0.71 per cent for six months, 0.72 per cent for nine months, 0.75 per cent for one year and 0.76 per cent for 24 months.

For dollar deposits, the new rates are 3.6 per cent for three months, 3.9 per cent for six months, 4 per cent for nine months, 4.4 per cent for one year and 4.6 per cent for 24 months.

Eden offers free int’l calls, expands service hour

HA NOI — The Eden Joint Stock Co, an authorised Western Union money transfer service provider, is now offering customers with a free 10-minute telephone call to any country until the end of November.

The firm has also introduced its round-the-clock service in the Viet Nam’s market. The Eden-Western Union network operates in 64 provinces and cities nationwide with around 700 payment locations.

Advanced production lines churn out sweets

HA NOI — The Trang An Confectionery Joint Stock Co has put into operation two advanced production lines of milk sweets and French cakes last week.

The US$630,000 production lines are expected to increase annual output of the company by 1,000-1,500 tonnes of sweets per day. — VNS
