Rubber latex sales rise, along with prices

HA NOI — Since the beginning of this year, affiliates under the Viet Nam Rubber Corporation (Geruco) have sold 169,000 tonnes of rubber latex, up 27,000 tonnes from the corresponding period last year.

The average price has reached VND21 million (US$1,310) per tonne, VND1.3 million higher than last year. Geruco also forcasts that the price of rubber latex will continue rising by the year end.

China-ASEAN fair to open in Nanning

HA NOI — The second China-ASEAN trade fair (CAEXPO) is scheduled to open on October 19 in Nanning, the capital city of China’s Guangxi Province.

The four-day fair, which attracts 200 Vietnamese businesses, will display their key products, including farm produce, aquatic products and household utensils, at 80 free-of-charge booths. A China-ASEAN commerce and trade summit and a China-Viet Nam business forum will also be held at the trade fair, said the Viet Nam’s Trade Promotion Department under the Trade Ministry.

Trade transactions at the last Caexpo, which was also held in Nanning, reached US$1.08 billion, the department added.

Vinh Phuc attracts $132 million in foreign investment

VINH PHUC — For the first eight months of this year, the northern province of Vinh Phuc has attracted US$132 million in foreign direct investment (FDI), $4 million higher than last year’s figure.

Of the sum, $45.4 million came from 13 newly-licensed projects and $86.5 million from seven expanded projects. The province has thus far granted licences to 82 foreign-invested projects with capital totalling $708.8 million, ranking seventh in terms of the amount of FDI in the country.

Dong Nai begins building 15,000 DWT wharf

DONG NAI — The Dong Nai port recently started the construction of a 15,000 DWT wharf, worth VND32 billion (US$2.03 million) in the Go Dau B Port. Located in the Long Thanh District, the 20ha wharf aims to bring the Dong Nai Port’s capacity to 27,000 DWT. It is slated for completion in 2006.

Nam Dinh starts making light trucks

NAM DINH — Nam Dinh Industrial Products Trading Joint Stock Co began marketing half-tonne and one-and-a-quarter-tonne trucks, as well as seven-seat Song Hong SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) last week.

The first phase of the VND300 billion (US$18.9 million) vehicle assembly and auto parts production facility in Hoa Xa Industrial Zone, supported by China’s Fonton Group, was put into production in 2004.

The final phase of the facility will be completed in 2008 when annual production capactiy will be increased to 5,000 vehicles.

State rubber company to auction shares

BA RIA – VUNG TAU — The State-owned Hoa Binh Rubber Joint Stock Company said its shares would be auctioned on October 10 at the securities trading centres in HCM City and Ha Noi.

A total of 144,000 shares will be auctioned at initial public offering price of VND184,000 (US$11.60) each.

The company, located in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, will become the first of its kind to auction shares. — VNS
