Ninh Thuan export tops $5.1 million, up 19%

NINH THUAN — The central province of Ninh Thuan has obtained US$5.1 million from exports this year, marking an increase of 19 per cent over last year’s figures.

It generated $200,000 revenue from seafood export, a three-fold increase over the corresponding period last year.

Viet Nam wins rice bidding contract in the Philippines

HA NOI — The Viet Nam Food Association (Vietfood) reported on Monday that Vietnamese exporters have won a contract to export 350,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines during a bidding war held earlier this month.

Under the contract, nine Vietnamese exporters will sell 250,000 tonnes including 25 per cent of rice broken during processing and 100,000 tonnes with 15 per cent broken rice.

Vietfood said with this contract, Viet Nam has so far made arrangements to export 1.7 million tonnes of rice for this year, of which 550,000 tonnes have been shipped in the first two months.

Viet Nam to attend wood products fair in China

HA NOI — Vietnamese firms will have the chance to display furniture and other wood products at a four-day international fair in China this month.

The Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, TSC Ltd Company are organising a business trip for local firms to attend the Woodworking/Woodmac China 2005 starting on March 22.

The fair, held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, is expected to attract firms from 27 countries and territories including Finland, Denmark, US, Australia, India and Japan.

Mai Linh Company to invest in Buon Me Thuot

HA NOI — The authorities of Central Highlands Dac Lac province has given approval to the Mai Linh Company to invest VND6 trillion (US$380.5 million) in a number of projects in Buon Me Thuot City.

The company plans to build an 18-storey, 500 room hotel in the city, a 72ha entertainment complex in the suburbs, and an eco-tourism resort near Ea Kao Lake.

In a bid to serve the customers of the projects, the company put 30 taxis into operation yesterday under a project to improve transport service in the city. It plans to start bus tours from the city to Da Lat , Nha Trang, Pleiku and HCM cities in the near future.

Govt adds four telecom companies to equitise

HA NOI — The Government has added four telecom companies to the list of equitised enterprises this year.

They include Viet Nam Mobile Society (VMS) which will have 50 per cent of its charter capital held by the State, and the Ha Noi Post’s Information Centre with less than 50 per cent of its charter capital held by the State.

The other two companies are in the process of setting up equitisation plans to get approval from the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Corporation, the Ha Noi Telecommunications Service Company and HCM City Telecommunication Service Company. — VNS
