Five tuna caught by fishermen in the central province of Bình Định and weighing a combined 230kg have been auctioned in Japan’s Sakai City.

Five tuna caught by fishermen in the central province of Bình Định and weighing a combined 230kg have been auctioned in Japan’s Sakai City at an average price of 1,380 yen (US$12) a kilogramme, higher than the average price of tuna from several countries at the auction, Bình Định authorities said on Tuesday.

This was the second batch of tuna caught under a province project to exploit, preserve, buy and export the fish.

The project began at the end of last year with 25 fishing boats taking part. From the first fishing batch caught in January, the province chose eight fish weighing a combined 387kg to send for auction in Japan.
