HCM City will focus on improving the quality of economic growth by increasing the ratio of competitive, knowledge-based and technology industries and reducing that of labour-intensive ones.
To that end, a programme called "Solutions for developing supporting industries" will be submitted to the city People's Committee for approval early next month.

Lawsuits help social insurance recover $9m
In 2015 the HCM City Social Insurance sued over 1,900 enterprises that owed it VND530 billion ($23.6 million) in premiums for their workers and recovered nearly VND200 billion ($8.9 million).
It was for the second year it sued enterprises and has so far recovered 65 per cent of back premiums.
But it remains a difficult mission because many debtors have already gone bust, sold their assets or fled.

Three major banks report big profits
Thanks to the highest rate of credit growth in the last four years, banks increased their profits.
VietinBank led with a profit of VND7.36 trillion ($327.1 million), a year-on-year increase of 21 per cent. BIDV was second with VND7 trillion ($311.1 million), a growth of 16 per cent, and Vietcombank was third with VND6.8 trillion ($302.2 million).

Farmers Fund quadruples since 2011
The "Renovating and Increasing Efficiency for Farmers Support Fund" achieved 30 per cent annual growth in 2011-15 period to increase its fund four-fold.
The average capital for each project increased from VND300 million ($13,300) to VND1.5 billion ($66,700).
The fund has created tens of thousands of jobs and helped improve farmers' living standards.
