The HCM City Capital Aid Fund for Employment of the Poor (CEP), established by the city's Labour Confederation, has provided loans worth more than VND4 trillion (US$178 million) this year to 280,000 poor people to do business and improve their lives.
Besides, CEP's scholarship programme has donated more than 1 million notebooks and 1,643 scholarships worth a total of VND7.4 billion ($329,000) to poor students.
Next year CEP will provide poor people with three new kinds of loans – emergency loans, additional loans and seasonal loans.

$680m to be spent on vocational training
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs' Vocational Training Department will set up 45 top grade vocational schools and provide training in 120 vocations that meet international standards within the next five years.
The project, to cost more than VND15 trillion (US$667 million), will seek to improve the quality of vocational training to meet the needs of ASEAN integration.
The rate of skilled vocational workers in the country is 38.5 per cent.

Quang Ninh develops brands for 21 products
The northern province of Quang Ninh has created brand names for 21 agricultural products this year, including three products with geographical indication and five others registered for collective brand names. The names have been certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
This is one of the main activities under a province programme called "One Commune One Product". Quang Ninh is the country's leader in developing brand names to add value to agricultural products.

Boy who died rescuing drowning duo hailed
Nguyen Anh Tuan, a 12th grader at the Thanh Chuong High School in Nghe An Province's Thanh Chuong District who died trying to rescue two people from drowning, was posthumously presented the President's Bravery Medal and the Ministry of Education and Training's Merit Certificate on Thursday.
On July 19, when Tuan and his mother were catching mussels at Gia Boat Station in Cat Van Commune, Tran Van Son, 22, and Dang Hoang Anh, 10, who were also catching mussels, fell into deep, dangerous waters. Tuan swam to them and saved Anh. He then tried to save Son, but both were exhausted and drowned.
