Dengue fever leaves 36 dead this year

As of November 2, a total of 53,464 cases of dengue fever had been reported nationwide, including 36 fatalities, according to the Ministry of Health's Medical Preventive Department.

The number of dengue cases in southern region accounted for 62.5 per cent of the total, with 33,420 cases reported.

Binh Duong Province reported 10 dengue-fever related fatalities, the country's highest number of fatalities, followed by Dong Nai Province with six and HCM City with five.

Ha Noi to host Mekong Delta Week

The Mekong Delta Culture-Tourism Week will take place in Ha Noi from November 15-18.

The event aims to promote and honour the Delta's cultural and heritage values as well as tourism potential.

It will introduce activities of the 2016 National Tourism Year-Phu Quoc-the Mekong Delta.

The week will bring together the Mekong Delta cities and provinces of Kien Giang, An Giang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Vinh Long, Tien Giang, Long An, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Can Tho and Ha Noi.

More than 1.1m people out of work

More than 1.1 million people of working age were unemployed in the second quarter of the year, a decline of 15,200 labourers compared to the first quarter, according to a report released by the Institute of Labour Science and Social Affairs.

The unemployment rate in the second quarter was 2.43 per cent, the report showed. The unemployment rate of female labourers fell to 2.34 per cent in the second quarter from 2.45 per cent in the first quarter.

The unemployment rate of male labourers rose to 2.48 per cent in the second quarter from 2.42 per cent in the first quarter.
