The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang plans to increase the application of global and Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in fruit production. The province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also plans to produce high quality seedlings.
Disease forecasting and guidance for preventive methods against diseases also will be enhanced. The province has the country's largest fruit farming area of more than 72,000 hectares.

Dengue fever reaches 53,000 cases
As many as 53,000 dengue fever cases were reported in 54 of the country's 63 provinces and cities in the first 10 months of the year, according to the Preventive Health Department under the Ministry of Health. Of these, 34 people died.
HCM City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Khanh Hoa provinces, and Ha Noi recorded the highest number of cases.
This year could be the beginning of the typical dengue fever cycle in which the number of cases increases greatly and then diminishes over a 10-year period.

Ha Noi boarding school canteens inspected
The Ha Noi Department of Education and Training this month will work with the Department of Health and other agencies to inspect boarding schools in the city for food safety.
Ha Noi has 1,410 boarding schools that provide more than 1.4 million lunches a day. Last year, the city's Food Safety and Hygiene Division found that 80 per cent of them canteens and kitchens that met standards.

North-East Meteorological Station upgraded
The northern province of Hai Phong has begun to modernise the disaster warning and forecasting systems of the North-East Meteorological Station.
The VND96.2 billion (US$4.2 million) project has been undertaken by the North-East Meteorological Station under the sponsorship of South Korea.
The station will be equipped with 25 automatic weather stations, 25 water measurement automatic devices and a display, analysis and forecasting system.
