The first phase of construction of the Phu Lac wind-power plant began on Tuesday in Tuy Phong district in the south-central coastal province of Binh Thuan.
During this first phase, the project will install 12 turbines with a combined capacity of 24MW, with total investment capital of VND1.1 trillion (US$50.4 million).
This phase is expected to be completed within 14 months.
Covering 400 hectares, the power plant is invested in by the Thuan Binh Wind Power JSC.

VN shoppers turn to their smartphones
Viet Nam's growth rate in the use of smartphones for shopping last year was the fifth highest in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a survey by the American payment company MasterCard.
However, Viet Nam ranked eighth in the percentage of consumers who have purchased a smartphone.
The percentage of Vietnamese consumers shopping via mobile devices rose from 34.9 per cent in 2013 to 45.2 per cent last year.
Overall, consumers from mainland China, India and Taiwan are the most likely to shop using smartphones, with the percentage of mobile shopping at 70.1, 62.9 and 62.6 per cent, respectively.
Nearly half of respondents across Asia-Pacific cited convenience as the most compelling reason for smartphone shopping.
Other reasons include the ability to shop on the go and the growing availability of software that makes it easy to shop online.

Funds allocated to support industrial parks
The central government has allocated VND12.075 trillion (US$533.9 million) to support infrastructure investment for 15 coastal business zones from the 2011-2015 period.
A total of 533 projects have received support of VND22.65 billion (around $1 million) each, with 169 of them finished.
