HCM City to intensify traffic-safety

The HCM City People's Committee has asked departments and agencies to take steps to reduce the number of traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries by the end of this year.

The Transport and Police departments will work with district People's Committees to check traffic congestion, repair traffic lights and install more cameras on streets.

According to the city's Traffic Safety Board, more than 1,400 traffic accidents occurred in the first five months of 2015. Of that number, 293 died and 1,270 were injured.

Bridge to connect Nha Be and Can Gio

A cable-stayed bridge connecting HCM City's outlying districts of Nha Be and Can Gio is planned to be built this August, and completed within 47 months.

The construction is part of Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway project, running through Long An Province, HCM City and Dong Nai Province. It is 2.7 kilometres in length and 21.75 metres wide, and will have four lanes. Total investment capital for the bridge will be more than VND3 trillion ($137 million).

Quang Binh to host Cave Festival

The People's Committee of the central province of Quang Binh will host a "Cave Festival" from July 15-27. New tours of cave systems in the province will be launched in an aim to attract more tourists and tourism investors. Music and dance performances, exhibitions and firework performances will also be organised.

Ministry students stay home in hot weather

The Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan asked the departments of Educational and Training, universities and colleges in northern and central regions to let students stay at home if temperatures increase in the next few days.

In recent days, the temperature has reached 39-40 degrees Celsius, particularly in the area extending from Nghe An Province to Phu Yen Province.
