The Prime Minister has approved VND492 billion (US$22.6 million) to help 36 provinces across the country, including mountainous provinces such as Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai, to begin drought and salinity prevention projects this year. The money will be used to upgrade and build dykes and embankments to control sea water levels.
The ongoing drought and high salinity levels have seriously affected several thousand farms and households, and hundreds of thousands of hectares of land, in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta region.
