52.3% of Mekong Delta firms to expand
Some 52.3 per cent of enterprises based in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta plan to expand this year, according to a survey done by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Can Tho city branch.
Last year 1,932 firms in the region closed down, nearly 20 per cent higher than in 2013, Nguyen Thi Thuong Linh, deputy director of VCCI Can Tho, said.

Cement consumption drops in first quarter
Cement consumption in the first quarter of the year reached an estimate of 13.65 million tonnes, or 91 per cent of sales in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Construction's Department of Construction Materials.
The department attributed this to a long Tet holiday break, saying many construction projects resumed work only after 15 days.
Consumption was expected to increase in the coming months, it said.

HCM City to host functional food festival
The international festival of natural products and functional foods (I3F Viet Nam 2015) will be held at HCM City's Tan Binh Exhibition and Convention Centre from June 5 to 7.
The event will provide an opportunity for consumers to learn about the origin and quality of functional foods and discover suitable products with advice from experts.
It will also be a forum for businesses to compare notes and look for partners.
Some 60 companies have registered to take part.

More buses to run during the holidays
Bus stations in HCM City will add more buses to meet the high travel demand during the upcoming holiday to commemorate the Hung Kings and Liberation Day.
The Western Bus Station said for instance it would operate an additional 60 buses.
With State employees and workers to have a six-day holiday from April 28 to May 3, demand for travel from HCM City to the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta was expected to increase by 3-5 per cent over the same period last year, it said.
Transport operators have decided to slap a surcharge of 20 per cent on April 27 and 40 per cent between April 28 and 30.
