Major floods to hit southern provinces

High tides will appear in HCM City and other provinces in the south in coming days, causing flooding, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has said.

Tides at downstream areas of the Sai Gon River and Dong Nai River will reach their highest level in HCM City this weekend. This year, serious flooding caused by high tides has occurred 19 times in 26 areas of the city.

The city's Steering Centre for Urban Flood Control Programme has urged local authorities to begin operation of 12 flood-prevention projects. However, they will not be completed until 2016.
