Brackish-water shrimp output surges 20%

The total output of shrimp in brackish waters has reached 660,000 tonnes this year, a year-on-year increase of 20.4 per cent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Farmers have raised the shrimp on 685,000ha, an increase of 4.4 per cent compared to last year.

Shrimp export value hit US$2.93 billion over the past nine months, a year-on-year increase of 17.2 per cent.

For the year, Viet Nam targeted 700,000ha of shrimp breeding and output of 700,000 tonnes.

Can Tho draws five projects worth $48m

The industrial parks (IP) and export processing zones (EPZ) in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta city of Can Tho attracted five new projects with total registered investment capital of US$48 million in the first 10 months of the year, according to the city's Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority.

Fourteen existing projects added capital worth US$6.8 million over the period, the authority said. There are 214 projects worth US$1.91 billion operating at IPs and EPZs in the city, including 23 FDI projects with investment capital totalling US$203.5 million.
