So far this year 11,576 private companies with a combined registered capital of VND61.326 trillion (US$2.92 billion) have been incorporated in HCM City, according to a report by the People's Committee.
As part of its administrative reforms, the city allows registration of businesses online.
Some 1,600 firms have been registered in this manner.

New diesel generators power Phu Quy Island
The Southern Power Corporation has installed two more diesel generators on Phu Quy Island in the south-central province of Binh Thuan to supply uninterrupted power instead of the 16 hours a day earlier.
It cost VND10 billion to install the generators, a 400-cubic-metre diesel tank, and a pipeline from Phu Quy Port and to upgrade a 42km power line.
The island with a population of 27,000 is supplied power at the rates applicable elsewhere in the country.

$4m invested in Sai Gon Hi-tech Park
Sai Gon Hi-tech Park management board has granted investment certificates for two new projects with a combined capital of more than US$4 million.
They are a centre to research and develop smart cards by the MK Smart Joint Stock Company and another to train human resources by the HCM City University of Technology – Hutech.

City reports 37,912 unemployed workers
According to a report from HCM City's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, 37,912 laid-off workers applied for unemployment benefits in the first half of the year and 33,295 of them were paid, down by 12,061 and 2,876 year-on-year.
There were 57,033 new jobs created, an increase of 0.22 per cent.
