The Prime Minister has approved adjustments to a seaport system development plan by 2020, with a total cost estimated at VND80 trillion – VND100 trillion (US$3.75-$4.68 billion).
The new plan will ensure the throughput of all imports and exports and exchange between different regions in the country by sea to meet socio-economic development requirements.
It will concentrate on building international gateway ports in Hai Phong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and the central key economic regions in order to receive vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes or larger.

Homeopathic treatment under scrutiny
The Drug Administration of Viet Nam under the Ministry of Health has asked local and central management agencies to intensify inspections of prescriptions and advertising of homeopathic products for cancer treatment.
Truong Quoc Cuong, director of the department, said many homeopathic products registered as functional food say they can help cure cancer and shrink tumours, but this has no scientific basis.
Using improper drugs may affect treatment results as well as increase treatment costs.

New plan for Northern Key Economic Zone
The Ministry of Planning and Investment released on June 25 a master zoning plans for socio-economic development for the Northern Key Economic Zone until 2020, targeting to achieve a GDP per capita of US$5,500 per year.
Under the zoning plan, to 2020, the industrial, construction and service sectors will contribute up to 94.5 per cent of the region's total GDP, of which the service sector will account for 45.4 per cent of GDP.
The plan also seeks to raise the region's export value to equal 32 per cent of the country's total. It also targets having 80-85 per cent of trained labourers by then, and reducing the number of poverty households by two per cent per year on average.

East Sea theme for Lunar New Year events
The flower street and book street for the upcoming Lunar New Year will be organised on Ham Nghi Street of District 1 instead of Nguyen Hue Street as in previous years, as the latter is being renovated, according to the HCM City People's Committee.
The 2015 Tet flower and book streets will have the same theme, representing the East Sea's situation as well as activities to protect the country's territory sovereignty and to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Viet Nam.

VAT refunds at seven airports, seaports
After a two-year trial to refund VAT to foreigners at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports, the Government has agreed to expand the practice to seven international airports and seaports starting from July 1, according to the Ministry of Finance.
They are Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang and Cam Ranh international airports and Khanh Hoi, Da Nang and Nha Trang international seaports.
The ministry has proposed to the Ministry of Transport that it assign relevant agencies to co-operate with customs agencies to carry out regulations on VAT refunds for goods that foreigners take out of the country.
