Viet Nam had a trade surplus of $4.4 billion with the US in the first quarter, according to the General Statistics Office.
Its exports were worth $5.9 bullion, up 22.9 per cent year-on-year and imports, $1.5 billion, an increase of 17.8 per cent.

Dong Nai turns on water supply system
The first phase of the Nhon Trach water supply plant in the southern province of Dong Nai became operational last Friday.
The plant, with a capacity of 100,000 cubic metres per day, cost VND2 trillion ($95 million), and was funded by Japanese ODA.
It is expected to supply clean water to Tam Phuoc and An Phuoc communes in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts.

Hai Duong to upgrade National Highway 38
National Highway 38 connecting Hai Duong City with Bac Ninh Province will be upgraded under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) model at a cost of VND468 billion ($22.23 million).
The highway is now seriously degraded with many potholes that regularly cause accidents.
The Ministry of Transport approved the project a while ago, but it was delayed due to financial difficulties.

Fisheries sector grows 4.85% in 2011-13
The fisheries sector posted average growth of 4.85 per cent in 2011-13 period, including 5.94 per cent in fishing and 4.16 per cent in aquaculture, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Viet Nam is the world's largest producer of tra fish, and third largest producer of shrimp.
Its fishery products are exported to 156 countries and territories, 16 more than in 2010.
