In the first quarter of this year, foreign direct investment (FDI) in HCM City increased by 19.1 per cent year-on-year, according to the city's Institute for Development Studies.
Seventy-five new FDI projects were licensed with combined capital pledges of US$690 million, an increase of 19 per cent in volume and 12 times higher in capital than the same period last year.

Psychiatric rehab improvement seminar held
A seminar on improving rehabilitation centres for psychiatric patients was organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and its partners in Ha Noi on Thursday. The participants focused on training human resources for the healthcare industry. The country has 26 rehab centres serving 10,000 people.

Kien Giang improves dyke systems
The southern province of Kien Giang is working to improve its dyke system, under a new project worth more than VND4.4 billion (US$210,000) to upgrade 84 dykes to prevent saltwater from rice fields and farm produce. The money comes from the province's budget.

Education festival to take place
The HCM City Department of Education and Training is working with its partners to organise the 2014 Education and Development Festival, which will begin April 22.
The event's theme is "Change- Integration- Development". It will include seminars and forums focusing on career guidance and vocational training. Local schools, colleges and universities are encouraged to join the event.
