The Ministry of Education and Training has stopped receiving applications for the upgrading or building of new colleges and universities. Applications sent to the ministry before March 20, 2014 will be considered. The ministry has proposed to relevant agencies and the People's Committees of provinces and cities that the networks of universities and colleges be reorganised.

Viet Nam imports rise 11.9%
As of March 15, Viet Nam's imports reached US$25.96 billion, up $2.75 billion or 11.9 per cent compared with the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam. Viet Nam increased imports of computers, electronics, various kinds of telephones and components.

Tuyen Quang invests in infrastructure
The northern province of Tuyen Quang will invest nearly VND51 billion ( US$2.4 million) in infrastructure construction projects in 78 remote and poor communes this year. The province will spend another VND13.5 billion(US$616,000) helping people in the communes develop production.

More enterprises go bust in HCM City
The number of enterprises suspending operations or going bust in HCM City in the first two months of this year rose 19.1 per cent over the same period last year. According to the Statistics Office in HCM City, 4,164 enterprises stopped operation, accounting for 91 per cent of the newly-licensed re-operating firms in the same period. Of the 4,164 businesses, there were 26 foreign direct investment companies, 3,301 limited liability companies, 509 joint-stock companies and 319 private companies.
