Footwear export turnover reached US$6.7 billion in the first 10 months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 15 per cent.
Last month alone, Viet Nam earned US$716.7 million in footwear exports. Footwear exports are forecast to hit a record high turnover of $8 billion this year.
The US and the EU are two main markets for Vietnamese footwear products, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

HCM City to host 128 Tet flower markets
HCM City will organise three city-level spring flower markets at September 23 Park, Gia Dinh Park and Le Van Tam Park from January 23 to 30, the city's leaders said on Tuesday.
A total of 125 Tet (Lunar New Year) flower-selling points will be opened in 18 districts in the city between January 23 and 30. A Spring Flower Festival will be held at Tao Dan Cultural Park from January 25 to February 5.
The Lunar New Year is to start on January 31, 2014.

Elderly too poor to afford healthcare
Half of the 8.6 million people aged 60 and over, who account for nearly 10 per cent of the population, cannot afford healthcare. It is forecast that this would reach 31 per cent by 2050, heard a seminar held on Tuesday.
At least half of that number had not received treatment at hospital when they were sick because of financial difficulties. More than 26 per cent of people over 60 do not have health insurance.

Works starts on solid-waste plant
The Viet Nam Environment Administration on Tuesday began construction of a domestic solid waste treatment plant in Ly Son Island District in the central province of Quang Ngai.
The 2,000 sq.m plan with a total cost of VND27 billion (US$1.3 million) will have a capacity of treating 15 tonnes of domestic solid waste per day.
It is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year. Households in the district discharge dozens of tonnes of domestic solid waste into the sea every day.
