The HCM City People's Committee has approved a suggestion by the firefighting deparment that all petrol stations in the city are required to install automatic fire extinguishers.
Manually operated fire extinguishers designed specifically for gas stations can also be used and the quality of the devices musts be confirmed by responsible authorities, said Colonel Tran Thanh Chau, deputy director of the department.

Phu Quoc Island becomes investment magnet
As of last month, 1,367 businesses with a registered capital of VND2.6 trillion ( US$1.2 billion) had invested in Phu Quoc island, according to the People's Committee of southern Kien Giang Province, which administers the island district.
Phu Quoc began calling on domestic and foreign investment in 2004. That year, 285 businesses registered projects worth VND373 billion. Since then, investment in the island has increased significantly.

Landslide buries seven HCM City homes
A riverside landslide occurred in HCM City's suburban district of Can Gio, sinking seven houses on Sunday night. The accident caused no fatalities.
An embankment built by local authorities recently could not prevent the accident in the area that was hit by landslides three months ago.

Students show off their skills at world contest
A team of 13 students left Ha Noi on Monday to attend the 42nd World Skills Competition 2013 organised in Leipzig, Germany from June 26 to July 8. The Vietnamese team will compete in 12 skills including cooking, restaurant services, electronics and woodwork.
