Phu Tho to improve lot of disadvantaged

The northern province of Phu Tho targets reducing the rate of disadvantaged children to 2.5 per cent in 2015 and less than 1.5 per cent five years later from the current 3.1 per cent.

Some 10,200 children are now considered disadvantaged, with more than 4,600 of them having disabilities.

Cruise tourism remains in growth mode

The number of tourists travelling to Viet Nam by cruise ship continues to rise sharply.

In the first five months of this year it surged 51 per cent after increasing six-fold in 2012, a current conference heard.

Delegates admitted Viet Nam has become an attractive destination for cruise tourists.

Can Tho has massive real estate inventory

The Can Tho Department of Construction reported that the property inventory in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta city includes 1,048 apartments costing VND637 billion (US$30 million) and more than 8,685 land lots measuring 1.6 million square metres and worth more than VND8 trillion ($380 million).

City airport land acquisition to cost $714m

The southern province of Dong Nai will spend VND15 trillion (US$714 million) on clearing land for the Long Thanh International Airport near HCM City.

To this effect, an agreement has been signed between the local administration with the Japan International Co-operation Agency and the Airports Co-operation of Viet Nam.

Some 5,400 households with more than 17,000 members will be relocated to make way for the airport.

Ca Mau gets funds to manage aquaculture

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is providing the southernmost province of Ca Mau with US$16 million for managing aquaculture farming in 10 coastal communes and towns.

The project, aimed at improving local knowledge about protecting aquaculture farms, will be carried out in Khanh Binh Tay Bac and Dat Mui Communes this year.
