The Department of Preventive Health under the Ministry of Health has announced 30 dengue fever deaths in the first six months of this year.
During this period, more than 26,000 people were infected nation-wide, a year-on-year increase of 24 per cent.
The number of infected people in the central region increased by 71 per cent compared to the same period last year, while the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) and southern regions posted increases of 40 and 23 per cent respectively.

Lang Son promotes fisheries development
Lang Son authorities have approved a plan to spend VND3.4 billion (US$163,000) by 2014 to promote aquaculture in the northern mountainous province.
The money will be used to buy breeds and conduct training courses for 900 househoulds. The province will also set aside 15 irrigation reservoirs in five districts and Lang Son City for aquaculture farms.

Retail petrol prices to rise again
Petrol traders have submitted to the Ministry of Finance a plan to increase the price of RON 92 petrol by VND1,400 per litre.
Dang Vinh Sang, general director of the Saigon Petro Limited Company, said a sharp rise global petrol prices has prompted the latest proposal.
The ministry has asked enterprises to calculate the retail price based on a 30-day moving average of global petrol prices.

Delta healthcare sector lacks skilled personnel
The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta currently has 9,246 doctors and 1,279 pharmacists serving 17.6 million people, experts said at a seminar held at the Can Tho University on August 10.
The ratios of doctors and pharmacists are 5.27 and 0.73 per 10,000 people respectively. This falls short of the healthcare development target set by the government, to have 7 doctors and 1 pharmacist per 10,000 people.
The delta now lacks 3,048 doctors and 655 pharmacists, the seminar heard.
