Provinces in the Central Highlands and central regions are facing a shortage of doctors as the number of experienced doctors leaving the provinces for HCM City is increasing, local reports say.

The central province of Phu Yen's hospitals need 600 doctors but have only 446. Over the last five years, 32 doctors have left the province for HCM City. The 600-bed General Hospital in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai needs 50 doctors.

There are five doctors per 10,000 people in Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan provinces. More than 50 doctors have left Binh Dinh Province in the past several years to seek jobs in HCM City where they can earn more money.
