The final round of Robocon Viet Nam 2011 kicked off in Da Nang on Tuesday and will end on May 15. The 32 best teams out of 245 universities, colleges and technical secondary schools throughout the country are taking part in the contest's final round. The contest's winner will be representative of Viet Nam who will take part in the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest in Thailand in September. The Asia-Pacific Robot Contest's theme is Loy Krathong – Lighting Happiness with Friendship. Viet Nam has won the top prize of this contest three times.

$483,091 for communes in Nam Dinh Province
Nam Dinh Province allocates nearly VND10 billion (US$483,092) from the State budget to every commune to implement a programme on building new rural areas between 2010 and 2015. The initial estimation of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that the demand for capital to build new rural areas in communes is VND3.6 trillion ($17.4 million) for the five-year period.

Nearly $29 million for Oncology Centre
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the upgrading of medical equipment for the Oncology Centre under the Hue Central Hospital with total capital of nearly VND 600 billion ($29 million). The Ministry of Health will implement the project, which is expected to be completed by 2013.

Streptococcus suis infections kills seven
Asso.Pro and Dr Nguyen Tran Hien, head of the National Institute of Hygiene Epidemiology, said that the institute has completed initial research on epidemiology of Streptococcus suis infection. In 2010, 55 people in the northern region were infected with Streptococcus suis, a bacterial pathogen which can cause meningitis in pigs. Of the 55, seven people died. Hien said that antibiotics can cure the infection, if taken early.
