New
centre to help solve labour disputes
The Ministry of Labour,
Invalids and Social Affairs has set up the Centre for Labour Relations
Development.
The centre will play the
role of an intermediary between employees and employers, helping them organise
dialogues and sign collective labour agreements and resolving labour disputes.
Its chapters will be set
up in provinces and cities that have the need and suitable conditions.

Delta cuts sugarcane cultivation
The area under sugarcane
cultivation in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta has shrunk by 4,500 hectares since
the last crop to 64,570ha now, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and
Rural Development.
Several sugarcane farmers
in the region, which accounts for more than a third of the country’s total
area under cane, have switched to other crops like peanut, watermelon, and corn
after suffering losses due to the falling prices in recent years.

Nine
rescue centres to be built by 2010
The Viet Nam Roadways
Department will build nine centres for search and rescue across the nation by
2010.
They will be set up at
accident-prone locations and each be equipped with a specialised rescue vehicle
and emergency vehicle among other facilities.
They are expected to
totally cost VND130 billion (US$7.6 million).

Vinh names environmental polluters
The southern Tra Vinh
Province People’s Committee has announced the names of five polluters who
release untreated effluents and solid wastes directly into the environment,
badly affecting residential areas.
They are the Dinh An Trade
and Production Company, Tra Vinh rubbish dump, Duyen Hai District market, Duyen
Hai District general hospital, and Tra Vinh town market. The committee has
ordered them to treat their waste not later than the third quarter of this year.
