AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company presents 150 scholarships to disadvantaged children in Quang Ninh

On 22 August 2018, AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Co. presented 150 scholarships to children from low-income families in Quang Ninh province. The children are from five wards and communes of Cam Pha city including Mong Duong, Cam Hai, Cong Hoa, Cua Ong and Duong Huy. The money is provided through the scholarship program of Quang Ninh Fund for Children.

This VND180 million education program (150 scholarships of VND1,200,000 each) is part of the Company’s CSR initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, livelihood restoration and environment protection for the local communities of Mong Duong 2 Power Plant. Since its establishment, the Company has invested VND8 billion in community development programmes that provide positive impacts for every school and clinic as well as overall infrastructure of the area.

The Ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Pham Hung Cu, Manager of Quang Ninh Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Pham Ngoc Lu, Vice president of Cam Pha’s People Committee; Mr. Nguyen Phuc Phong , Director of Quang Ninh Fund for Children; Mr. Nguyen Van Vuong, Deputy Head of Cam Pha’s Education Division; Mr. Kevin Pierce, Plant Manager of Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Plant; Mr. Yang Sang Geun, Chief Financial Officer and Ms. Le Thi My Hanh, Stakeholder Manager of AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Co.; leaders of communes;  scholarship recipients; and their teacher and parents.

 

Addressing the Ceremony, Mr. Kevin Pierce, Power Plant Manager, said: “We are committed to improve the education environment since this is one of the important factors to improve the living standards and ensure sustainable development of the community. We are very pleased to partner again with Quang Ninh Fund for Children to implement this important mission for the second year.”

 

The scholarship aims to motivate children to advance their studies and help their parents to cover part of the educational costs. The Company expects this support to encourage children to continue their education accumulating knowledge that will benefit their future.
