Vietnamese milk group tap Russian market

Update: September, 24/2018 - 08:57

HÀ NỘI — TH Group will collaborate with Russian farmers to produce milk products that meet international standards.

The statement was delivered by Thái Hương, TH Group founder, during the ground breaking ceremony of a milk processing plant, which is an important component of its dairy farm and milk processing mega-complex, in Russia earlier this month.

Once operational, the plant is expected to bring one of Việt Nam’s leading milk brands closer to Russian customers.

Efforts to bring Vietnamese milk to the world

In recent years, many Russians have learned about TH milk products thanks to the group’s participation at several food exhibitions held in the country. One of them is the World Food Moscow Food Show, which TH Group has attended for four consecutive years.

The group’s pavilion at these international events gained international appreciation as it welcomed up to 3,000 visitors per day. As well as among customers, the quality of TH dairy products has been recognised by professionals, winning gold, silver and bronze awards for "Best New Product" at the shows.

However, Hương and her team at TH Group were not satisfied with advertising just TH milk products at these shows. They set a bigger ambition to develop a dairy brand in Russia and become a supplier of quality raw milk in the country. This ambition gave birth to the US$2.7-billion dairy farm and milk processing mega-complex – the biggest-ever project financed by a Vietnamese firm in Russia thus far. When it comes into operation, the complex will be home to 350,000 dairy cows that will enable it to provide 1.8 million tonnes of milk annually.

TH Group expects its complex to offset Russia’s shortage of fresh milk as well as supply milk products to other international markets, especially China and Asia-Pacific nations.

In his speech at the milk processing plant – a part of the complex – on September 7, Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng spoke highly of the TH Group’s mega project, which proved the enhanced ability of Vietnamese companies in integrating into the international market.

For his part, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Vasilievich Gordeev described the plant’s ground breaking ceremony as an important event for Russia in general and its agricultural processing and foodstuff sectors in particular.

Desire to create a safe and organic foodstuff ecosystem

A few years ago, Thái Hương became famous for her inspirational speech: "When you want to become a cook for guests all around the world, initially, you need to make good meals for those in your homeland. And let’s start with quality fresh milk first.”

Hương said she wished all Vietnamese, including her family, relatives and friends, could drink the safest and freshest milk products. And now her dream has come true.

After 10 years, TH Group, founded by Hương, has become one of the leading providers of fresh milk in Việt Nam, accounting for 40 per cent of the domestic market share. Its TH True Milk brand name has won the trust of many local customers.

Currently, TH Group owns a high-tech concentrated dairy and fresh milk production farm in the central Nghệ An Province’s Nghĩa Đàn District. The farm is also the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia with over 45,000 dairy cows. Similar ones are being developed by the group in some other locations.

After reaping success after success with the high-quality TH True Milk products, the group started focusing on organic production with a series of launches including TH true HERBAL – a herbal drink made from natural ingredients; TH true NUT – a new range of milk-based nut beverages and TH true MALT – a malt drink made from the fermentation of barley.

According to Hương, many consumers nowadays have a tendency to use natural and organic beverages and her company is one of 20 per cent of enterprises in the world providing such products. This will pave the way for the TH Group to enter the Russian market and develop a safe and organic foodstuff ecosystem there through its mega complex.

In addition to fresh and organic milk products, TH Group will also focus on producing organic vegetables and herbs for Russia and other neighbouring markets.
