THỪA THIÊN - HUẾ — Stale internal organs of cows to be traded in Laos were discovered on board a passenger bus which was stopped by traffic police in central Thừa Thiên - Huế yesterday.

Police found 500kg of cow viscera and 900kg of moldy dry squid on the bus, which departed from Đà Nẵng City. Bus driver Nguyễn Hồng Quân failed to show documents of the food’s origin and hygiene condition.

Quân told police he collected the squid from Đà Nẵng and the viscera from a facility in Thừa Thiên-Huế’s Phú Lộc District for the purpose of trade in Laos.

Police seized the boxes and transferred them to the local environmental police unit for investigation. The bus has been detained at a station.

Earlier, on Thursday last week, police also stopped another bus from Đà Nẵng and seized two big boxes containing stale internal organs of cows.

Vietnamese use cattle viscera as an ingredient in a number of dishes. There are many Vietnamese who live as temporary workers in Lao provinces near the border. — VNS
