Biofach trade fair promotes Vietnamese organic products to international market
The Biofach trade fair in Germany will present organic products from 11 Vietnamese small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
Under the pressure of food hygiene, safety and environmental protection, organic farming systems developed as a trend of many countries around the world. This is also an important direction for Viet Nam's agriculture in the future.
Organic agricultural production will bring a great deal of benefits, such as increasing economic values, ensuring consumers' health, not affecting the water, air and soil environment. Organic cultivation combined with tourism would bring higher incomes for producers.
At the same time, Viet Nam has a wide variety of plants that can be used for medicine, food and cosmetics which are favourable for organic certification. However, this resource is gradually dwindled by overexploitation which is not accompanied by conservation. Besides, these products are only sold at low prices as they are not invested properly in manufacturing and branding.
In this context, since 2016, BioTrade Vietnam project has been implemented by Helvetas Vietnam and funded by the European Union (hereinafter referred to BioTrade EU Project). BioTrade is a consumer trend of using products with clear origin, ensuring ethical factors in production, trade and biodiversity conservation. The BioTrade EU project aims at applying sustainable values of high-end markets such as Europe and the US into Viet Nam’s pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industry in particular and the natural materials production in general.
The project cooperates with strategic partners such as the National Institute of Medicinal Materials (NIMM), Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VietTrade), Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA), etc. to support many SMEs in building up supply chains in accordance with sustainable exploitation and biodiversity conservation activities.
Following up the success of Biofach trade fairs in previous years, VOAA has been authorised by VietTrade to be the focal point to organise a pavilion with the participation of 11 Vietnamese SMEs operating in the organic agriculture industry. The trade fair booth introduces Vietnamese-origin products to the international market.
Six out of 11 SMEs mentioned above are closed partners of BioTrade EU project including Vinasamex, Visimex, DACE, Hagimex, Ecolink, Moocos. The project has provided assistance for these SMEs in terms of cultivation technical advice, organic certification registration activities and it will continue to accompany them to participate in Biofach this year.
Viet Nam's pavilion at the BioFach 2020 is located at Hall 2-234, Exhibition Center, 90471 Nuremberg, Germany. The fair takes place from 9am to 6pm, 12th to 15th February 2020.
