A man in the northern Quang Ninh Province thought he found a surefire way to kill a mouse: by setting it ablaze with petrol. But only when his house and car were razed last week did he start to feel pangs of regret.
Nguyen Ngoc Dan, of Dam Ha Town in Dam Ha District, blew a fuse when he saw the destruction caused by the mouse. However, he did not anticipate the havoc a flaming mouse would wreak when it ran around his house and garage, spreading the blaze throughout the building.
The house owner had no choice but to look on in vain as his house, worth billions of dong, was destroyed.
It's clear who won this game of cat and mouse.
Tran Temple Festival goes online
Every year when the Tran Temple Festival kicks off in the northern Nam Dinh Province, thousands of visitors flock to the temple to receive papers stamped with the holy royal seal in hopes of enjoying a year full of health, happiness and success.
In an effort to avoid chaos caused by the distribution of stamps, the provincial post office devised a system to deliver the stamps via express mail service. The stamps can be delivered to customers all over Viet Nam and overseas.
The service aims to serve as a convenience for people who live far from the temple as well as the elderly and disabled. Delivery fees depend on the weight of the package.
Online newspaper Viet Nam Net reported that many agencies and companies are taking advantage of this service to deliver stamps to their staff.
In the age of advanced technology, nothing is impossible.
Kids swap school bells for wedding bells
Children at a kindergarten in the southern Tien Giang Province were likely thrilled when they received a day off last Friday.
The reason was not due to extreme weather, but because the school's principal decided to host her son's wedding reception in the kindergarten yard.
Local authorities told online newspaper dantri.com.vn that the principal submitted her request to hold the party at the meeting hall of the commune's People's Committee. However, there was a meeting there on Friday. The local authorities decided to allow the teacher to throw the party at the school instead.
To curb the outrage of parents, a representative of Cai Lay District's Education and Training Department advised everyone to be sympathetic towards the teacher because her house has no space for the event.
This time, it was the teacher who learned a lesson. — VNS
