Music contest picks country’s songbirds

HA NOI — The televised songwriting awards Bai Hat Viet (Vietnamese Song) 2008 named Chenh Venh (Tottering) the Song of the Year in Ha Noi on Sunday.

The winning song was performed by Le Cat Trong Ly with her guitar and her pure voice.

The Ngu Cung group won the Most Impressive Musician award, and Sa Huynh was honoured for her creative experimentation with the song Li Ti.

The R&B style song Em Se La Giac Mo (You Will Be My Dream) composed by Luu Thien Huong won the award The Audience’s Favourite Song.

Singer Thuy Chi won the award the Audience’s Favourite Singer.

The best song of contemporary pop went to Em Trong Mat Toi (You Are in my Eyes) composed by Nguyen Duc Cuong.

Nguyen Hai Phong took home the award for the best contemporary rock song with Goc Toi (The Dark Corner).

The best classical style song was Co Nhung Dieu Ky La (There Will be Strange Things) by Jazzy Da Lam.

Musician Hoai Sa won the award for Most Contributing Musician.

Fifteen songs that had been selected from the monthly Vietnamese Song programme, were competing for the final awards at this year’s ceremony, organised by Viet Nam Television.

This year, no award was given to a contemporary folk song, which is different from contests in the last three years. — VNS
